Kyle is deploying for the next few months to a far away land. Once he arrives to this land, he has to quarantine for 14 days in his barracks room, only leaving to use the restroom or shower. His meals will be brought to him. We’ve all had our own versions of quarantine or #stayhome, but the thought of doing this alone in a small room feels a little like prison. He’s boxed up his bike and the smart trainer {unsure of the internet situation}, he got himself a fancy new gaming laptop, and brought a pile of books.
I’m still here in Washington, hanging out with me, myself, and the kittens. I’ve taken some time off the bike, and used this stay home time to recharge and reset. I’m not sure when this season will start, but there are still races on the calendar that I need to start training for. In reality, I need to start training again for life. For my happiness and sanity. And I need a little kick in the bibs to get started again. So I’m going to ride every day for 14 days, for at least 14 miles in solidarity with Kyle.
If you’ve ever thanked Kyle for his service, he usually scoffs and gives an ashamed thank you in response. He doesn’t feel like he needs to be thanked, because he feels he’s just doing his job. A part of his job requires being forward deployed. And what an interesting time to be heading on deployment. I’m thankful for all those who serve. What a scary time to be on a ship or shore, in foreign lands or back home.
So, if you’d like to thank Kyle for his service, join me {virtually} in some or all of my 14 “Rides” for Kyle starting tomorrow – Sunday, April 26th. It doesn’t have to be a ride – you can post artwork, or progress on a game you’re playing, or a puzzle you’re working on. Home improvement projects, yard work – whatever floats your boat. If you spend a minute thinking of Kyle, let me know {tag me/him} and I’ll post to my social accounts. I’d just like to keep his spirits up during this challenging time.
Ride on!
I love this! And I love how you both show up in this world. I will be thinking of you both. Thank you, Kyle!!! 🤗
