Santa Val
Feb 2024
Had fun showing Kyle what Girona is all about (bikes!) and racing this 3 day event. It was tough, but so beautiful. A well run event by the folks at Klassmark. Well designed courses, great support, post event food (with a microwave! so us slower folks can still have hot food). The Euros are still searching for the spirit of gravel, and some US professional men took some issue with our women’s field and the start times. But alas, it was still a great event. Perfect weather, too.
Kmoot Women’s Badlands Rally
April 2024
This deserves it’s own full post, but to sum it up, this was my favorite adventure by bike, yet. Every kilometer was absolutely stunning. The route was challenging, rugged, remote, gorgeous, well supplied with tiny towns and the cutest little bars that fed our mighty crews rolling through. The format was great, with a self supported, choose your own adventure style. Ride with folks going your speed, or ride alone for a bit. Company was always welcome. Seventy women took on this challenge. The perfect eight day adventure. 10/10 recommend.
Team Camp
May 1-5, 2024
The start of my US Spring Tour kicked off in NYC and meeting Stone, my bestie BrittLee’s newest little one! We hosted an event and ride at the KASK NYC store and then headed up to Connecticut for the second half of team camp, where we rode and worked on the “She Rides” film with Danny and Joshua. A quick trip, but it was so good to be reunited with teammates again!
Camp Noko
May 5-10, 2024
When your bestie knows just want you need. Dog walks, great food, wine, and a Spa Day including a full body scrub. Goodbye Badlands leather skin! Got in some solo coastal rides and a trip to the tidepools, and visits and some bike love from Jim. A quick trip for the soul.
Arizona
May 10-15, 2024
Snuck in a quick trip to see my sister and nephews. Lots of fun at the water park and trampoline center and pedicures and catching up. And a wee bit of riding and heat training.
Rule of Three
May 15-22, 2024
Headed to Arkansas to catch up with my old teammate Caro and her family. Participated in the many shake-out rides all week leading up to the race on Saturday. The race was tough and hot, and a lot of consecutive singletrack. Mentally and physically exhausting, and 10 miles longer than last year made for a long day. No Coke until mile 104 almost did me in.
Inbound to Unbound
May 22-23, 2024
Loved my experience last year, so why not do it again? Recruited my friend Hannah to join me and she redesigned the route so I could take a new way to Emporia. 260 miles in two days, lots of headwinds and storm dodging, but overall a great ride from Bentonville. The Rech’s took me in a week early and we enjoyed nightly dinners and cribbage games in the lead-up to the craziness of Unbound. I really needed this downtime after a busy spring to recharge before the big race.
Unbound XL
May 31-June 1, 2024
Race report here. I came with an open heart. I came for redemption.
Vermont!
June 3-7, 2024
Spent an extra rest day in Emporia and flew to Vermont to spend the week with teammate Meghan! (and her kitty, Pennie) We rode bikes, ate creemes, made dinners and just hung out, both recovering from the XL. On Friday, we drove to PA for our next event.
Grinduro PA
June 7-9, 2024
Highly recommend this event – one of the best I’ve done! Located in a remote and rural area of central Pennsylvania, the course traverses many ridge-lines, up and over, around and through some of the best gravel and single track I’ve done. The format of the event allows you to crush the time sectors, and ride with your pals. The aid stations were frequent and plentiful. And had Coke! And PA’s version of cream soda in a keg! Small batch french fries! Large gummy selection! I could go on and on. I slept in Meg’s friend’s tent, used her brother’s sleeping bag, and Britt brought me an air mattress. Taneika and Meg slept in their cars. We had such a fun time, like kids hanging on bikes, all darn day.
FNLD GRVL
June 12-18, 2024
Another fantastic 10/10 event! Meghan, Taneika, Katie & her partner Paul, and Kyle all flew over to Helsinki and made our way to Lahti for the event. The course is fantastic, and starts out along some great gravel cross country ski trails that feel like a roller coaster through the woods. The rest of the course traversed farm land, followed snowmobile trails, went into and out of the woods and alongside lakes. I did the Blue course which had an 11am start! The finish line vibes cannot be beat. Great food and beer. They have wood fired hot tubs and saunas cranked! Cold plunges, or you can opt to jump in the harbor – which is of course my choice. They had a great DJ keeping the vibes going. If you can get yourself to Finland in mid-June, I highly recommend this event.
Enough Cycling Festival
July 12-14
Heading back up to Northern Italy for some summertime fun with the Enough crew. DJ’s, gravel, camping and Italian hangs and Meghan is returning for the fun!
The Rift
July 19-21
I’ve been intrigued by this event since it’s inception and I finally get the chance to head to Iceland! Meg and I are gonna make the trip over and hook up with our teammate Gabby. Excited to explore this expansive barren land, and hopefully get some time in the natural hot springs.
Grinduro Italy
Sept 27-29, 2024
Heading back to Tuscany for this iconic event. Excited for a new venue and course, and to hopefully bring Kyle along this time.
